This is our back yard

Like a lot of parents living in the city, Andrew and I contemplate how long we can last. How many years we can keep this going. Life in a 1100-square-foot apartment. The uncertain future in public schools. Not being to open a door and let Parker run around an enclosed outdoor area.

But the thing is, this is our back yard.

We bike to the waterfront and can go swinging, sliding and roller skating.

We go to the park and see a million different shades of white and brown, and cis and trans, and it really does appear to be one motley, happy group after another.

We have museums and libraries, gardens and playgrounds, music classes and soccer leagues within walking distance.

We expect this to be a dilemma for years… should we stay or should we go. But for now, it’s hard to imagine leaving Brooklyn.
